Dr. Michael D. Tinkelman, Optometrist

About the doctor

Dr. Tinkelman has lived and practiced in Bellefonte since 1979.

He received training in the fabrication of glasses and contact lenses after graduating Penn State and became interested in the profession of Optometry.

In 1973, following completion of the doctorate program at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, he was licensed  to practice Optometry in Pennsylvania. He received expanded license privileges in 1998, following completion of transcript quality courses and passing the national board examination in Therapeutic practice.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and past president or the Mid-Counties Optometric Association. He has been a member of the Bellefonte Lions Club since 1980, has held every club office and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow for service in 1994.

He has served as a member of Scientific Advisory Board of the Sightloss Support Group of Central Pennsylvania since 1982 and was awarded the Joseph R. Cardenuto Service Award by the group in 1994.

Dr. Tinkelman is married to multimedia artist, Manya S. Goldstein and resides in Bellefonte. His interests include his family, music, woodworking and tinkering, walking, lap swimming, pets, and cooking. His daughter Sarah lives in Maryland with her husband Geoff and children, Aidan and Kieran.
